わたくし、SEというお仕事をしております。正式名称はField Sales Engineer。昔は Systems Engineerだったのに、いつのまにか営業っぽく。。
外資系ITベンダーのSEというのは、世間一般に言うSEの仕事とはちょっとちがいます。NECほげほげとか、日立ほげほげといった会社のSEの仕事は、いわゆるシステム構築です。会社のコンピュータ環境をつくってあげてお金をもらいます。ITベンダーのSEの仕事は、「製品をうるために技術的なことをなんでもやる」という感じです。
ヘッドハンターからきた某社のSEの募集要項をみると、もっとわかりやすいです。
仕事の内容(xxxがその会社/製品名）
* Technical focal point for partner enablement.
* Profile key channel partners and leverage the results to build strategy roadmaps.
* Ensure xxx is adopted as part of the partner’s core business.
* Certify partners on their technical capability, lab environment as well as demo capabilities.
* Present xxx's technical value proposition to customers and partners.
* Proactively drive new and incremental business with the OEM and Channel Partners.
* Provide xxx product education to our OEM and Channel Partners.
* Ensure partners use of POC methodology.
* Documentation of client feature requests and issues.
* Support xxx and partner seminars and industry trade shows.
* Drive the design of customer oriented solutions using xxx.
* Develop technical knowledge of xxx and associated technologies.
* Participate on a consistent basis in the SE discussion forum.
* Assume the role of a mentor to other system engineers when appropriate.
* Create training content for the SE organization when appropriate.

必要スキルなど
* BA/BS or equivalent required.
* Minimum 3-6 years of technical channel sales experience.
* Experience in creating revenue generating program for partners.
* Experience with professional services creation and methodology.
* Strong presentation skills as well as the ability to build and present
high quality product demonstrations to both technical and executive audiences.
* Must exhibit ability to speak in front of large audiences.
* Strong customer-facing and relationship building skills.
* Must be effective in working both independently and in a team setting.
* Strong writing skills with the ability to create technical documentation.
* Experience with enterprise applications, security, systems management,
business continuity solutions a plus.
* Experience troubleshooting system level problems including server failure, OS tuning, networking problems.
* Strong IT infrastructure technical skills including x86 Server platforms,
Windows Server and Linux operating system expertise, SAN / NAS storage
technologies and TCP/IP networking.
*Ability to travel up to 75 percent of the time, including international if necessary.
